Hi Sarah, thanks for the comment and apologies for the delay in coming back to you. As long as you have taken sensible steps to arrive at the random winner(s) and can show that to someone if challenged you are fine. There are no hard and fast ways of doing it. One way of easily doing it yourself is to export all entries into excel, give each entry a number, it can just be their entry ID. You can then use the Random number generator in excel (http://spreadsheets.about.com/od/excelfunctions/qt/080218_randbetw.htm) to select a winner. The independent check would be fine if it was someone from your legal team, but the guy next door works too! I hope that helps!

Promotion code says that if you are doing a “one lucky subscriber will
win an X”, then you have to make sure your winner is selected at random
(I am thinking put the names in a hat or find a random number generator
programme to pick a number within the range for the number of entries
received – is that ok?) and have the process confirmed by an
“independent person” – but I can’t find a definition of an independent
person. Would the guy who runs the company next door to ours count as
independent? cheers.
