Not being an expert myself on Social Media, my reasearch for using them in my business has led me to similar conclusions: In the Spanish context, Social Media are already an excelent way to access data for future commercial contact and it is just an opportunity to achive some on-line visibility in B2B markets. But they are far from being a sales booster right now.

Given the decision making process in B2B marketing i.e. the need for clear rational information that can be shared and reviewed in a structured way with the parties involved in the decision, content would seem the most appropriate and credible way to get the message across. I agree however that social media, Linkedin in particular, is a fantastic B2B tool when deployed correctly.

I thought I’d start by putting some of the key issues on the table. Indeed, access to sites as well as creating dialogue are two enduring concerns in companies coming at the idea of content and two way communication for the first time. Thanks for sharing.

One additional challenge is how many corporate networks block their employees from using social media sites. The very term ‘social’ suggests personal use and as such many IT depts block these sites. This is slowly changing but for now it remains a key issue and engaging with B2B buyers through these channels either means encroaching on their downtime (as stated in the article) or creating collaborative social tools such as blogs, reviews, ask & answer etc on your own corporate site.
