Thank you for explaining what’s going on. I didn’t know what was happening, only that my reach had dropped significantly for each post on Facebook. I used to reach over 1000 fans, now I’m lucky if I reach 200. This is so frustrating, not just for me, but for my fans as well. Like one of them said, she went through a lot of trouble reviewing pages and deciding which ones she wanted to see in her newsfeed, and that’s why she liked them. Now, she has to do the work all over again to ensure that she’ll see the posts in her newsfeed. Edgerank is driving me crazy! Grrr.

Posts are disappearing from my timeline. I can see everything I shared in my activity log, but everything in my timeline started disappearing at June 1. I tried changing dates(the posts reappeared at the different date I put for a day then disappeared again)…I tried changing from friends only to public..I tried highlighting….it just seemed to make it worse and so much is missing….please help.

I had a Twitter conversation about one aspect of this post which was the suggestion that Facebook ranks status updates from third party tools (such as Hootsuite) lower than direct posts.

Here is evidence from Eloqua that third party posting tools have 61% less visibility than manual posts http://blog.eloqua.com/facebook-for-b2b-marketers/

I’m not seeing it yet but I think it’s probably connected to the Promoted Posts roll out.

I’ve not been using EdgeRank Checker myself but intend to. The screen clip is from another organisation which gave me access to their dashboard. There’s certainly some very interesting data nicely presented which saves you doing the analysis yourself using your FB Insights. (EdgeRank offer a 2 week free trial if anyone wants to try it out).

I’m actually working on a Digital Masters pre-dissertation project at the moment which is looking at the effectiveness of different types of post so am hugely interested in this topic (and knee deep in FB Insights data at the moment).

Great post Marie, good to see such a comprehensive review and explanation of EdgeRank. Personally I’ve found by using the EdgeRank Checker I’ve been able to actively monitor pages and identify key days and types of posts for improvements. It also allowed me to back up my theories with actual data. Do you have much experience using it? What are your thoughts on using this type of tool?
